A Ugandan priest friend in East Africa told me that in his home parish there
were two priests: one was very likeable and related well to parishioners of all
ages. He occasionally lapsed in breaking the Sixth Commandment, but his affairs
were discreet and did not cause public scandal. The other priest was very stern
and strict and often got angry with the parishioners. When the bishop was
obliged to transfer one of the priests to another needy parish, he asked the
people which of the two priests they wanted to stay in the parish.
Overwhelmingly they wanted the first friendly priest to stay even though they
were aware of his lapses.
